RADAR - Air and Surface Search

Late 1938 to 1945

While the capability of today's US Navy radar has left TEXAS radar in the past, the fundamental principal in 1939 is still the same that being a burst of energy is transmitted (in the case of TEXAS radio and microwave). When the energy strikes an object, some of the energy is reflected back and and electronically displayed.

CXZ and CXAM-1 information provided by RCA via 1947 RCA document "How Radar Came Into Being".

Radar for gun fire control is not addressed here.
