RADAR SK: Summer 1943 to Today |
|
Adapted from the original CXAM and SC-1, the SK radar had a maximum detection range of 150 miles, earning a reputation as one of the best long-range air search radars of the war. The antenna was located on the mainmast and the operating equipment was located on 2nd deck in Radar II which was also the Auxiliary CIC.. The radar was installed in the summer of 1943 with the antenna on the main mast and above the SG antenna. The equipment was installed in the newly created Radar and Auxiliary CIC, on 2nd deck. The original SK antenna was destroyed by Hurricane Carla in 1961. During the December 1988 - February 1990 dry dock, a replica was made and installed |
