RADIOS

In 1945, at least 61 pieces of radio equipment (receivers and transmitters) of 35 different types, were aboard sometime prior to the decommissioning.  Many radios were removed by the decommissioning.  The equipment presented through the links above came from the following sources:

  • 16 page list of electronic equipment signed for, 21 Apr 1948,  by Mr Strickling, one of the TEXAS caretakers, for the Battleship TEXAS Commission.  The list has several items crossed off (not turned over) and is marked confidential.
  • 5 page inventory, 1 Apr 1948, of engineering department equipment being left aboard
  • "Radio Title B Equipment", undated.  The LORAN entry makes the list not earlier then 1943.
  • An inventory I made, in the mid 1990s, of the Radio Transmitter Room

Which radios were aboard at the decommissioning and the quantity is still not completely certain.  The radio contents of the two1948 inventories do not match.  My inventory of the transmitters in the Radio Transmitter Room does not match the 1948 inventories.  A DAQ (radio direction finding) was not in the 16 page inventory but it was aboard, in 1945.
