BB35 fired torpedoes at least as late as 18-19 September 1924, in the Southern Drill Ground (according to the Quarterly Cruise Reports) Airplane platforms were aboard at least through the 1st quarter of 1921. A 7 Feb 1921 photo shows a platform on turret 1 and probably on turret 4. An OU-1 airplane was carried on the main deck, at the fantail, starting around the last quarter of 1923. The 1912 joiner plans show an "Aviation Compartment", on the 3rd deck, in the forward area. (I assume the aviation was balloon related not airplane) The 1912 joiner plans show 3" AA guns on the superstructure behind 5-inch guns #20 and #21. 3" AA guns are also shown atop turret 3. The 3" AA guns were not installed at the time of commissioning 23 Jan 1918 - BB35 presented with the battle efficiency pennant, the gunnery trophy and the steam engineering trophy for the competition year ending 30 June 1917 27 Jan 1918 - The forward most 5" guns on 2nd deck (#1 and #2) were removed, in the New York Navy Yard. |

Not all plans for the 1925 - 1926 modernization dry dock were implemented. In 1923, drawings were made to replace the reciprocating engines with turbines and locate the turbines in the boiler room compartments. The boilers were to be relocated outboard of the engines (history, engine room) |

Major format changes still going on …. complete rework of format and some content….Plan views - comparing the similarities and differences between 1910 & 1944. Already present but major changes to layout and enlarge drawings. The drawings are AutoCAD of the July 1944 "Booklet of General Plans" and and AutoCAD of 29 September 1910 compartment and access plans. ….Full size - 1944 AutoCAD created from the 1944 "Booklet of General Plans". Large enough scale to read the smallest text. Decks are 50kb to 150kb. (if printed, the length would be 50 inches, to give you an idea of the scale used) Dimensions - additional illustrations and major format change Boiler change out - the illustrations for the 1925-1926 boiler change out have been significantly improved Armament - all of the guns from 50 caliber up to the turrets have had additional data, links to other site related data and improved images of reduced file size MAPS - over 100 maps are on the site. The file sizes on all have been greatly reduced and the clarity improved. The major maps are on the map-page. The rest are largely accessible in the history |
