BATTLESHIP TEXAS BB35 BB34 vs. BB35
Though sister ships, there were differences in the external appearance but in the early years the difference were not as pronounced as in the 1940s.
My presentation is based on limited information about BB34. Will have future inclusions when more NEW YORK data is available
1914 to January 1918 - Searchlights The only easily discernable exterior difference is the arrangement of the search light platforms on both masts. The change on BB35 to the single platform occurred after the late September 1917 Block Island grounding and by 26 January 1918

December 1918 to July 1925 - Pilot House
The BB35 Pilot House was installed in 20 October to 4 November 1918. The installation date of the BB34 Pilot House is unknown.
The Pilot House photos and drawings of both ships shows the forward edge of the BB35 structure almost even with the front of the Conning Tower, a distance of eight feet more than BB34's..

November 1918 to July 1925 - Airplane Platforms: NEW YORK did not have the platforms atop any turrets for flying airplanes from.
1928 to 1945 - Navigation Bridge area
The modernization of both ships resulted in the tripod masts but with a different arrangement. Where BB35 has another bridge (Flag Bridge) above the Navigation Bridge, NEW YORK has an air defense platform. NEW YORK has a Flag Bridge but it is located where the BB35 Signal Bridge is, which is below the Navigation Bridge.
